Defender of the Dunes
The Kathleen Goddard Jones
Story
What they are saying about Defender of the
Dunes
The story of Kathleen Goddard is inspirational because it shows how an
average citizen can make such a difference in the world by having
enough interest and care to pursue what she thinks is right. Goddards
diligence in saving the Nipomo Dunes is not just about the Nipomo Dunes, it is
about human spirit, courage and stamina the same qualities exhibited by
heroines like Diane Fossey, Elizabeth Leakey and Amelia Earhardt. I was
fascinated! I commend Cornell for writing this because without writers like
her looking into heroic stories like this, such inspirations might be lost.
Hillary Hauser, Heal the Ocean
It amazes me still to realize that Kathleen Goddard Jones actually
STOPPED the nuclear power plant on property PG&E had already purchased on
the dunes. . . I had assumed this book would be tedious reading it
wasnt it was an interesting story of a person I had known only from one
part of her life.
Bill Denneen, Dune Activist
Cornell has caught the very spirit of the woman her determination, her
passionate devotion, her ability to inspire and educate. I hope the book will
find its way into the hands of us faltering defenders of our private sacred
spaces, to lend us her determination.
Judith Goodman, Nature Activist and radio personality
The dialogue reads like Cornell was there taking notes!
