Ted Berkman's books include Cast a Giant Shadow (Kirk
Douglas starred as its hero Col. Mickey Marcus in the film); To Seize the
Passing Dream (biographical novel about J.M. Whistler, Oppie Award);
Sabra (profiles from the Six-Day-War); My Prisoner (about Patty
Hearst), and The Lady and the Law (about international attorney Fanny
Holtzmann).
Berkman's movies include Fear Strikes Out (Anthony Perkins
as Jimmy Piersall, Christopher Award); The Green Cockatoo (starring John Mills,
adapted from story by Graham Greene); Girl of the Night (Anne Francis) and
Bedtime for Bonzo (starring a former President).
In television Berkman wrote for Studio One and the Harry
Truman memoir series, Decision.
A former broadcaster, Berkman has taught the biography
workshops at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference since 1983. He is a lyricist
and jazz pianist whose songs shared the White House stage in 1952 with
compositions by Cole Porter and Jerome Kern.
